What is a Dietitian?

A lot of confusion exists between the various titles within the nutrition profession. A Dietitian is a food and nutrition expert with a recognised qualification, who translates the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living. A Registered Dietitian is appropriately trained to deal with the nutritional management of specific clinical conditions. A Dietitian will often work as part of a multidisciplinary team such as a consultant physician, physiotherapist and psychologist. As well as carrying out individual consultations, education can also be provided to groups, schools and businesses.

All Dietitians in Ireland are CORU registered. CORU is responsible for the regulation of health and social care professions in Ireland (including dietitians). The Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute (INDI) is the professional body for Dietitians in Ireland.
The term Nutritionist is not protected by law, so people with different levels of training, or in some cases no training at all, can call themselves a “Nutritionist”.

Personalised Nutritional Advice

Our dietitian Billy can provide personalised nutritional advice based on his client’s’ lifestyle and individual goals. This might include consultations, education, meal plans, dietary and body composition analysis.

Your initial consultation with Billy can be done in person or online and lasts about 60 minutes. This allows time to talk about your current nutrition, lifestyle, and exercise habits, as well as your personal and family health history. Detailed body composition measurements can be taken (if face to face consult). Clear goals will be established, as well as a guide on the most efficient ways to achieve them. We can then work together to create positive dietary changes which can fit within the context of your lifestyle. At the end of your first consult, you will have a clearly defined plan and an understanding of why this plan has been created for you.

Your subsequent consults will last approximately 30mins. Eating habits are reviewed, body measurements are often re-checked and further diet or lifestyle guidance is provided to help achieve your goals. Follow up appointments can help clients stay focussed on what they are trying to achieve, and support is provided to assist in sustaining dietary changes.
Sufficient time will be allocated for any questions that you may have throughout your consults.
